Anupam Kumar Ghosh, a 26-year-old police constable, committed suicide by hanging himself in his rented home in Rasulpur, Satkhira, early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM. Before taking his own life, Anupam posted a "Goodbye" status on Facebook.
Anupam, son of Ashish Kumar Ghosh from Durgapur village in Chitalmari upazila, Bagerhat, was stationed at the Satkhira Police Lines. He had been living with his wife, Deepa Rani Roy, in a rented house owned by Bulbul Ahmed in Rasulpur.
Alleged Reasons Behind the Suicide
According to family members and local sources, Anupam was struggling with debt due to alleged drug addiction. To repay his debts, he reportedly sold his wife's jewelry, which led to frequent conflicts between the couple. They had been living separately in different rooms of the same house.
Deepa Rani Roy, Anupam's wife, stated that her husband returned home around 2:15 AM on Sunday after completing his duty at the police lines. He ate dinner, smoked a cigarette in the adjacent room, and locked the door. When she called out to him later and received no response, she alerted the police.
Sub-Inspector Shakhawat, who was on duty with Anupam, arrived at the scene and broke open the door. They found Anupam hanging from the ceiling fan with a gamchha (traditional towel) around his neck. He was immediately taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where Dr. Akhtar Mahmud, the emergency department physician, declared him dead.
