BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the need to safeguard minority communities, stating, “We must protect them—even at the cost of our own lives.” Speaking at a rally in Haripur upazila, he asserted the importance of ensuring that Hindus can celebrate Durga Puja in a festive and peaceful environment.
Fakhrul highlighted lessons from the Holy Quran, warning that when limits are crossed, consequences follow. “Those who once ruled with arrogance now seek refuge in India, while those who imprisoned us now find themselves imprisoned. We must remember that nothing occurs outside Allah's command.”
In a lighthearted moment, he referenced Obaidul Quader’s claim that he would never flee, asking, “Where is he now? Will he seek refuge at my home?”
He noted that more information about the ruling party's misdeeds is emerging, cautioning against adopting the same behaviors as the Awami League. “If we start to act like them, we risk losing everything we've gained through our struggles,” he said.
Fakhrul stressed the responsibility to ensure the safety of the Hindu community, urging his supporters to act as vigilant guardians during Durga Puja. He also requested prayers for Khaleda Zia, praising Tarique Zia for uniting and leading the BNP.
“We want to coexist peacefully with India, but we will stand firm against any wrongdoing,” he concluded.
