Allegations of Land Grabbing and Brutal Torture Against a Hindu Family in Abhaynagar, Jashore

A Hindu family in Abhaynagar upazila, Jashore, has accused local BNP leaders and their associates of illegally occupying their land and subjecting them to brutal torture. The family claims that two sons of a local BNP leader forcibly seized their land on February 17, and despite seeking help from the administration, they have received no redress. The victims, Parimal Kanti Karmakar, his son Piyas Karmakar, and wife Beauty Karmakar, made these allegations during a press conference at the Jashore Press Club on

Thursday, February 20.

The family, residents of Professor Para Women's College Road in Noapara municipality, has been living in a rented house in Jashore city for the past seven years after being forced to leave their ancestral home due to continuous harassment since 2017.

Details of the Allegations

Piyas Karmakar stated during the press conference that FM Alauddin, a former BNP organizational secretary from 2001 to 2006, and his family have been using their influence to physically assault, humiliate, and economically exploit their family for years. The situation became unbearable in 2016 when Alauddin's younger son, FM Rabbi, and his gang attacked and vandalized their home, causing significant damage.

Piyas further alleged that Alauddin's two sons, FM Raju Ahmed and FM Rabbi, have established a reign of terror in the area through their cadre-based activities. They are currently leaders of the local Chhatra Dal and are widely feared. Following the 2016 attack, Beauty Karmakar filed a case with the Abhaynagar police station, which is still ongoing. Since then, the family has been living in fear, unable to return to their home.

Recent Incident

On February 17, 2025, Parimal Kanti Karmakar discovered that Alauddin's sons, along with their father and uncle (the organizational secretary of the local BNP), had illegally occupied their home and locked it up. When Parimal attempted to enter the house, he was brutally attacked by Raju, Rabbi, and their gang. They beat him with bricks, locked him in a room, and subjected him to continuous torture, demanding a ransom of 10 lakh taka. Parimal managed to escape and was later admitted to Jashore General Hospital in critical condition.

The family claims that their home remains locked, and they are being threatened and prevented from seeking legal recourse. They also alleged that the local police are not cooperating and are instead intimidating them.

Call for Justice

The family has appealed to the administration and human rights organizations for justice, demanding the return of their property and protection from further harassment. They also seek legal action against the perpetrators for their alleged crimes, including land grabbing, physical assault, and extortion.

This case highlights the ongoing struggles of minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly in rural areas, where powerful local figures often exploit their influence to oppress vulnerable groups. The family's plight underscores the need for stronger legal protections and administrative intervention to ensure justice and security for all citizens.
